In the late 1970's and early 1980's Freddie spent much of his musical efforts in both the Austin and San Francisco punk scene. His band, The Explosives, was a favorite at the famous Austin club named Raul's. The Explosives would play and record a number of records on their own, and act as back up for Roky Erickson. From 1979 until 1982 The Explosives released three 7" records, and one full LP as well as appearing solo and with Roky Erickson on the Live at Raul's album.
