70 pixel spacer MEDICINE SHOW, the long awaited fourth album by Freddie Krc and the Shakin' Apostles hit the music store shelves throughout Europe in late 1997. Inspired by the comparison of a modern traveling rock band to the mobile "Medicine Show" wagons of America's western expansion days, this release delivers the goods with style. With the rave reviews this collection of Leiber and Stroller administered songs was receiving throughout Europe, Big Tex Records jumped to distibute the Krc wares in America.

Cam King, Freddie Steady's long time musical partner joins with Shakin' Apostle newcomer Greg americanmedicine.gif - 22484 BytesJackson to form the band's trio of guitars. Burnet Lamar (Clovis Morose's half brother) does his usual exemplary work on the drums. Champ Hood, Wes McGhee, Ponty Bone and the ubiquitous Lloyd Maines lead a cast of excellent sidemen.

The title track starts the album and leaves no doubt that Krc and King still have the "metal" that was forged in their Explosives days. The band follows up with the Jack Kerouac inspired "Crazy Flowers". The end of this song features a combination of King's guitar and Lloyd Maines on pedal steel that is worth the price of the album by itself. The rest of the CD displays the wide mixture of musical styles that have been the hallmark of this Austin, Texas band. Hard edged Americana is displayed in the traditional "Buffalo Skinners" and Krc's "Hotspur". A gentler, more fluid, folk-rock tone is presented in original works like "Black & White Movie" and "After The Opera" (both inspired by Freddie's wife Karen). Freddie pays homage to one of his early musical influences by performing Moby Grape's "Fall On You". The band's more than capable rocking ability is evidenced by King's "Busy Man".
